Privacy Policy

Effective September 25, 2026

Not Boring Nashville (“NBN,” “we,” “us”) is a Nashville community that runs in-person meetups and events. This policy covers notboringnashville.com and the membership account, texts, and emails that come with it.

What we collect

• Account info. Your name, email address, and password (stored only as a secure hash — we never see it).
• Phone number, if you choose to add one. We verify it with a one-time code so we know a real person holds the number.
• Profile details you add. Bio, photo, and the interests you pick.
• Event activity. Which events you RSVP to, when you check in at the door, badges you earn, and reviews or photos you submit.
• Event waivers. Some events ask you to sign a participation waiver, either ahead of time from the event page or when you check in. We keep the name you type as your signature, when you signed, the exact wording you agreed to, and the IP address and browser of the device you signed on.
• Payment records for tickets and supporter plans — what you bought and when. We never receive or store your card number. Card details go straight to Stripe, our payment processor.
• Messages you send us — texts to our number and emails to the crew.
• Basic technical data. Pages viewed, rough location (city level), and device type, through our own analytics — see below.

How we use it

To run your membership and log you in; to show you events and take your RSVP; to send the event info, reminders, and announcements you asked for; to check you in at the door and track attendance for badges; to process ticket and supporter payments; to answer you when you write to us; and to understand which parts of the site people actually use so we can make it better. We don't sell your information, and we don't run third-party advertising on the site.

Mobile opt-in information

If you opt in to our text program, we use your mobile number only to send the messages you signed up for. Your mobile opt-in information and consent are not sold, and are not shared with any third parties or affiliates for their own marketing purposes. We only share it with the service providers that deliver the texts on our behalf, strictly to make that delivery happen. See our text program terms for how the program works and how to stop.

What other people can see

• Public to anyone: event photos you submit once the crew approves them, reviews you post publicly, and — if you upload a profile photo — a small blurred version of it in the group collage on our homepage. The blurred version is stored separately from your real photo. Apart from the organizer case below, your full-resolution photo is never published.
• If you organize an event:when the crew features you as an event's organizer, that event's public page shows your name, your profile photo at full size, your bio, and the vibe tags you picked — so people know who they're meeting. This is the one place your full-size photo and bio become public, it only applies to accounts the crew has given organizer (or admin) access, and we can remove it from an event at any time if you ask.
• Visible to other logged-in members: your name, photo, bio, and interests in the member directory. You can hide yourself from the directory anytime in your profile settings.
• Visible to the event's organizer: your display name on their RSVP list, whether you checked in, and for an event that needs one, whether you signed its waiver (not what you typed). Organizers never see your email address or phone number — when they need to reach everyone going, they send a message through our system rather than getting your contact details.

Service providers we use

We share the minimum necessary with the companies that make the site work: Stripe (payments), Resend (email delivery), EmojiOut and Twilio (text delivery and phone verification), Amazon Web Services (hosting and file storage), Mapbox (turning an event address into map coordinates), OpenAI (helps the crew draft event listings — it works with event content, not your personal details), and Discord (our community chat server, covered in its own section below). Each is allowed to use what we send only to provide that service to us.

Discord

NBN runs a Discord server, and our own bot (“NBN Bot”) is a member of it. Discord is a separate service with its own privacy policy; this section covers what our bot does there.

• What the bot can see. In the channels it is given access to, the bot reads messages (the text, attachments, reactions, replies, and who posted them), server membership (your Discord username, display name, roles, and when you joined), and when you join and leave voice channels. It does not read your direct messages or anything outside our server.
• What we keep and why. We store server activity so the bot can post celebrations (new badges, supporters, organizers), so we can understand what the crew is into (which channels are lively, which events people talk about), and, if you link your Discord to your NBN membership, so we can connect the two. Most of what we look at is about the community as a whole. The crew can also see simple activity counts for the most active members, like how many messages they posted, how many days they showed up, and time spent in voice, so we can recognize the people who keep the server going. We do not build advertising profiles of individual members, and we never sell or share any of it.
• Linking your account.Connecting Discord to your NBN membership is optional and happens through Discord's own sign-in, never by us guessing from a username. You can disconnect it at any time.
• Editing and deleting. If you edit or delete a message in the server, our copy is updated or deleted too. If the crew removes a whole channel, we keep the messages that were in it as a record of the community, and yours are still deleted if you ask. Leave the server and we stop collecting anything new; what you posted before you left stays until you ask us to delete it. Email us and we will delete what we hold from your Discord activity.
• No AI training. We do not use Discord content to train AI models, and we do not share it with anyone who would.

Analytics and cookies

We use a self-hosted copy of Umami for analytics. It runs on our own server, doesn't use tracking cookies, doesn't follow you to other websites, and is configured to discard the query string from URLs. We don't use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or third-party ad networks.

The only cookie we set is the one that keeps you logged in. It is first-party and necessary for the site to work — signing out clears it.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information while your membership is active, and your event history for as long as we keep the account so your badges and attendance stay accurate. Payment records are kept as long as we need them for tax and accounting purposes. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your profile and contact information; we may keep a minimal financial record of any transaction, which the law requires us to hold on to. Signed event waivers are kept indefinitely, even if you delete your account: they are the record of your agreement with Favrs, LLC, the company that runs Not Boring Nashville, and we may need them if a claim ever comes up.

Your choices

• Texts: reply STOP to any message, or turn texts off in your profile settings.
• Emails: turn them off in your profile settings.
• Directory: hide your profile from other members anytime in your profile settings.
• Edit or delete: update your details anytime, or email us to see what we hold about you, correct it, or delete your account entirely.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, passwords are stored only as salted hashes, our database is not reachable from the public internet, and card details never touch our servers. No system is perfect, but we take care of what you trust us with.

Children

NBN is for adults. The site isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we'll update the effective date at the top of this page, and we'll tell members directly if the change is a significant one.
